How to Calculate Percentages

The Three Main Percentage Calculations
1. Finding a percentage of a number: This is the most common calculation. To find X% of Y, multiply Y by X and divide by 100. For example, 20% of 150 is (150 × 20) ÷ 100 = 30.
2. Finding what percent one number is of another: To determine what percentage X is of Y, divide X by Y and multiply by 100. For instance, if you scored 45 out of 60 on a test, your percentage is (45 ÷ 60) × 100 = 75%.
3. Calculating percentage change: To find the percentage increase or decrease between two values, subtract the original value from the new value, divide by the original value's absolute value, and multiply by 100. If a stock goes from $80 to $100, the increase is ((100 - 80) ÷ 80) × 100 = 25%.
